Just days after the State legislature reconvened in Sacramento for the start of the year's legislative session, Orange County local elected officials attended the January Division meeting of the Orange County Division, League of California Cities. The meeting was held at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. Local and state leaders filled a panel to discuss Group Homes, a topic becoming more and more relevant to cities.

Assemblyman Robery HuffInvited to participate in the panel discussion were some of the state's leading experts on group homes. Taking part in the panel were local legislators Robert Huff, Assemblyman for the 60th Assembly District and Tom Harman, Senator for the 35th Senate District. Additional panelists included Bill Higgins, Attorney and Lobbyist for the League of California Cities, Joan Robbins, Manager of the State’s Department of Alcohol and Drugs, Grant McNiff, Chairman of the Orange County Sober Living Network, Dave Kiff, Assistant City Manager from the City of Newport Beach and David DeBerry, City Attorney from the City of Orange.

The City of Newport Beach, a long time leader in the area of group homes gave Orange County cities sound advice. There are "Six Things Every City Should Do," Dave Kiff explained, to prepare for what we hope is a smoother integration of group homes within our communities.
