Born in Long Beach, California, Cheryl Brothers grew up in Los Alamitos from the age of two. She is married to an engineer and has two adult children. Cheryl has been blessed with a life that allows her to give the gift of time. She will always say “yes” when asked to volunteer. Her natural curiosity and abilities give her a real “can do” attitude. She approaches each day with a sense of humor.
Cheryl will step up and volunteer for leadership roles even when it means tackling tough decisions. She has served on her homeowner’s association board of directors for 26years, often as President - always as a member of the Architectural Control Committee. This job does not always endear members to individual homeowners, however; Cheryl has earned a reputation of fair and even handedness. Her opinion is often sought out by other members.
She served on the City Planning Commission for over four years. During that time, she made tough decisions that have had her face to face with friends in the community. She is able to render professional impartial decisions, and has not abstained from controversy.
In 1992 she considered herself lucky to be selected to serve on the Orange County Grand Jury. Past Grand Jurors are eligible for membership in the Grand Jurors Association of Orange County. Cheryl has been a member since 1993 and serves on the Board of Directors since 1994. She is the newsletter editor.
Following the county’s bankruptcy in 1994, she began volunteering in a County Supervisors office. When the need grew to full time status, Cheryl went to work for the remainder of that Supervisor’s term of office. Several years later, when called upon by a succeeding Supervisor, she returned to work for the County for six more years. Among other duties, helping constituents thru the government maze to find the help they need is a rewarding experience for her. |
