The Advocacy CommitteeThe Advocacy Committee is composed of a Chair elected by the membership at the same time as the Division Board of Directors. The remainder of the committee is appointed at the same meeting, and is comprised of two elected officials from each Assembly District. Committee members are recommended by the Advocacy Committee Chair, approved by the Board of Directors and confirmed by the membership. The committee meets monthly at the Division office. The meetings are open to the public. The Advocacy Committee is the most active committee of the Division, reporting to the Board of Directors through the Advocacy Committee Chair. The role of the committee is to act as a clearinghouse of policy information to and from members, to advocate policy issues on behalf of members where there is broad consensus. Provide forums for Division members to learn about current and emerging policy issues, involving members in the process. The committee helps coordinate legislative meetings and fosters good communications with State and Federal legislators including the Annual Legislative Mixer, and works with the State League’s Regional Public Affairs Manager on outreach efforts. The committee drafts, reviews, and recommends positions to the Executive Committee that aligns with the Division Legislative Platform. Where appropriate, the committee may recommend that the Board approve issues for membership consideration, as needed. Where recommendations do not align with or are not addressed in the Legislative Platform, the committee makes recommendations to the full Board of Directors, for their approval, before taking action.
